mind, brain and the elusive soul cover

Mind, Brain and the Elusive Soul: Human Systems of Cognitive Science and Religion
By Mark Graves
CTNS associate, Dr. Mark Graves' new book grew out of his M.A. thesis and the course he and Professor Robert John Russell taught in 2005 on "Theology, the Person & Neuroscience".

This book uses information and systems theory to describe the "more" that does not reduce to the parts. One sees this in the synapses—or apparently empty gaps between the neurons in one's brain—where informative relationships give rise to human mind, culture, and spirituality. Drawing upon the disciplines of cognitive science, computer science, neuroscience, general systems theory, pragmatic philosophy, and Christian theology, Dr. Graves reinterprets the traditional doctrine of the soul as form of the body to frame contemporary scientific study of the human soul. (Ashgate , 2008). Anticipating Omega

Anticipating Omega
By Ted Peters
Anticipating Omega is a work of constructive theology that takes into the theological enterprise the findings of the latest research in the natural sciences. Ted Peters asks how the eschatological vision of God's ultimate future (omega) fits on a map of reality along with physics, evolutionary biology, genetics, and technical prognostications for a post-human future. He formulates a unique theory providing a retroactive ontology of the future in an attempt to understand today's world in light of tomorrow's world of transformation. The theological position taken in this book belongs roughly in the tradition of Europe 's theology of hope and its contemporary exponents, Wolfhart Pannenberg and Jürgen Moltmann.
